[at-l] Poem "Hiking the Trail"

Thanks for the poetry everyone. Here's one I wrote to
the tune of Roger Miller's "King of the Road"
Dedicated to Duster and Samson, friends, thru-hikers.

HIKING THE TRAIL

 Backpackin' in the rain,
 Destination: Katahdin, Maine
Old worn out boots and Pack
 I'm a hikin' Maniac.

 I walk....
Twelve hours on roots and rocks,
 In polypro and smelly socks,
I'm a forder of streams, by any means,
Hiking the trail.

 I sleep...
 Anywhere I lay my head,
In shelters, rocks or on a soft bed,
 Too tired to fuss anymore,
 Can't even hear myself snore...

  I know...
Every hiker and all of their names,
Friendships borne from Georgia to Maine,
And every trail angel in every town,
And all those who helped me when I was down.

  I'm a..
Different person than when I began
My life will ever be on a different plane
My heart remains on a moutain high
Where once I reached and touched the sky.

  Memories rush through me everyday
  Rosy rainbows light my way
I'm basking in the afterglow of
  Hiking the trail.
