In a little over three months I used my whistle once to signal my partner; I
never heard another whistle the entire time.  While you see other hikers quite
often, especially in the south, you can go for hours without passing another
person, so I doubt if this will really be a problem.  Of course, the whistle
shouldn't be used without a really good reason.
