Well, I didn't post it as "science" and he didn't write it as such, either.
They were just the results of his survey.  I don't think I've ever seen
anything scientific and proven on this list (unless you count someone stating
that thru hikers WILL get rained on <g>)  Obviously they weren't all hiking
together (100+ thru hikers in one shelter would be a stunning sight) but I
imagine they generally used the same water sources.  I will definitely be
carrying a water filter, and if I have to say it seven times, I will . . . my
post was NOT meant to say "don't filter, it is useless."  Definitely just
meant as an interesting statistic from his book.  Indeed, even ignoring the
statistics, it's still a great book :)  WAIT - I can't post this...I don't
have a word for the day..... FELIX????
