Welcome to the list, and especially, welcome to the class of 2000 ;)  Mom,
Morning Dove and I will also be setting out that year, on St Patricks Day.
(yea, the red hair is a give away :))

While I am an experienced backpacker already, I have found that weekends or a
week here and there hiking and thru hiking are two different things - and this
list has helped immeasurably already in educating me, encouraging me and in
general, just being there.  All the questions you ask will be one more
question I don't have to ask - all the replies, in all their variety, help us
make the choices right for us.  Again, welcome. :)
