With all these bug bite posts, I gotta tell ya about an article in the
Castine, ME newspaper a couple years ago. It said Maine officials were
concerned about the native black fly population being replaced by non-native
species and discussed methods the natural resources folks were taking to
repopulate the area with native stock, which it said were more vicious even
than the intruders.

Since I work for the Ky Dept of Ag, which is responsible for dealing death to
black flies and other such varmits, I immediately called a bug killin' man and
yelled about those crazy, daggone State of Mainers who actually wanted to
increase the black fly population. Sent him a copy of the article too, which,
alas, I hadn't quite read to the end.

A couple days later I get a call with him screaming about what I was trying to
do to him. What? What? What? He was reading the article to his boss and
raising cain his own self about the crazy state of Mainers and came to a part
which indicated that while the paper arrived in Ky on April 6, it had been
published April 1. Oops.

I was glad though that all the black fly bites hadn't made the mainers plum
crazy.
