i know what you're saying, bill, but surely an anti-inflamatory/pain killer
such as ibuprofen is just a mild opiate/steroid, not chemically, of course,
but from a thruhiker-trying-to-ignore-the-pain viewpoint?  by that i mean,
if you popped 1600mg of ibuprofen to dull the pain in the knee, surely you
could do some damage to it without knowing?  similar if you gave it a
cortisone shot and ran down the priest  :).  it seemed to me that a lot of
ibuprofen really did do a good anesthetic job, which is why i took my large
doses when i stopped hiking for the day, so that i would not be oblivious
to the warning signs.
