[at-l] re: seen the "light" - packs

patty:

now that you are specifically looking for smaller packs, here are a few
suggestions:

dana bridger; my ex has this pack, and i have used it some. perfect size
for AT thruhiking, imo. very comfy, has pockets like the terraplane which
is a plus.

mtnsmith diamond; i just bought this pack, the women's version cos i am
narrow in waist and shoulders. i love it. very similar to the bridger,
with pockets. btw, this is one of those mtnsmiths where their weight
estimate is way off. they list it at 2,14 but it is about 4,1. dunno what
is happening with the scales at mtnsmith?

both these packs are a little over 3000 ci, with enough lash points for
pads, tents, poles etc, on the outside (ie they are designed to have some
stuff lashed to them, and still carry well).

if you want to go even lighter, for summer use per kahley's post, look at:
dana bomb,
mtnsmith wizard,
north face exocet.
these vary between 2500-3000 ci, i think.

of course, experienced ultralighters can use these small packs for winter
too, but i would not recommend that for beginners.

and, there are many more packs out there in the range you are looking at.
these are packs that i have some experience with.

good luck, and don't rush into it, wait until you find that pack that feels
like a silk glove when you first put it on in the outfitters.
(specifically, the silk glove that goes with felix' sequinned gown).
seriously tho, i'm not kidding. for me, a mtnsmith is SO comfortable, no
other pack comes even close. it was an incredible feeling when i first put
one on. "oh, you mean no more pain?" there are enough packs out there
that you'll find one that fits you great.
