[at-l] "Ultralite" in PA

I hiked on the AT today and met ULTRALITE, Terry Norton, at Tagg Run
Shelter in south PA. He mailed his latest journals today (the 26th) from
the Pine Grove Furnace State Park. He is doing very well and enjoying his
hike tremendously, not one discouraging word. He was clean shaven and
looking well. It was sunny, breezy and warm. He was treating his water
when I offered him a cold Coca-Cola, (the one thing I crave on my hikes) I
hated to leave to go home. He had the shelter to himself when I left at
4pm and I wondered if he knew how fortunate he is to sleep with the wind
and the stars and the cool, clean mountain air.....Yes he does! He's one of
those people who doesn't just hike through life to get it done but one who
takes time and becomes a part of life.
GRUNTS & GROANS, a thru-hiker from Kentucky, was at Birch Run Shelter at
noontime and he was hoping for ice cream at the half-gallon club but when I
returned to PGF the store is closed for three days 26th, 27th, 28th. Boy
will he be disappointed. The entries in the store register show a great
amount of disappointment at missing the half-gallon challenge. And then to
top it off, their soda machine is out of order. ULTRALITE is wondering how
APRILMOON is doing and If she is off the trail. MAGARONI passed through
the area on the 20th and is well on his way to DWG. Trail rumor has it
that the SOLEMATES are still having problems and had to take more time off
at Harper's Ferry & possibly she will quit while he goes on. He plans to
finish the Pearisburg to Waynesboro section they skipped too. Anyone who
talks to the SOLEMATES can tell them if they need a base camp our home is
open to them while in south PA. BLAZE went through, ObiWan, too. Many
others whom, right now, I can't remember their names. Anyhow I am going up
there again tomorrow to shuttle a hiker friend of ULTRALITE who is waiting
for some innersoles from Campmor.
God Bless Us Everyone,
