Re: [at-l] (Guest Post) Good Quality Rain Gear for Tall Men?? (fwd)

Hmmmm,
One of my good hiking buddies has the same problems. He's 6'6" with long arms.
He usually buys Patagonia XLs because they tend to have disproportionately long
arms. They are a little baggy though. I would check out LL Bean I know that some
of their other stuff comes in tall sizes. Othersise I might go to a bike shop that
carries a lot of Pearl Izumi and has a good relationship with their rep. I heard a
rumor that their Nomad cycling Jacket (I own one) comes in tall sizes, it's another
one of those water proof breathable things. You will probably have to order it and
it may or may not be available. If you are having trouble finding a shop in your
area that can help you I would call the Yellow Jersey in Madison, Wisconsin their
telephone number is 608 257-4737. Otherwise I would think about
making some gear yourself. This is something that I have had good luck doing, I
made a bivy for my tall friend and he has been very happy with it, I'm not sure he'd
tell me if it wasn't that great though. I'd also check out places and people that
make gear. If there is a good tailor or seamstress in your area i would explain
some of the things you want and see if he or she has any reccomendations. One that
I came accross was Specialty Outdoors. They do mostly gear for themselves and
little stuff for paddling and white water, but maybe they would be sympathetic to
your cause if you emailed them and explained things. Or maybe they would have some
other ideas. Their web address is www.nextdim.com/users/pschwyn/ . Otherwise I
might think about a coated nylon poncho and gaiters combined with a light nylon
jacket, it would be lighter.
Cheaper too. If you are looking for sources for fabrics water-proof breathable and
otherwise I have a list of phone numbers and such for several different suppliers
that I can email you privately if you are interested.
