Watch those bears, moose, skunks, foxes & dogs but most of all - the most feared animal on the AT - MICE! I hiked southbound in Maine in 78 with a guy from New Hampshire and much to my surprise I met him still hiking southbound (thru the winter!) just north of Erwin, TN in 79 as I was hiking northbound. Told him of the mice in the first shelter south of Erwin. Later heard he bought 5 mice traps and had 23 of the suckers hanging by their tails before he left the next morning. Heard later that the mice had a 5,000 M&M reward for Paul - Dead OR Alive! May have been just a rumor but I still think it's true.

True story (well maybe the reward was just a bit overdone). Anyway Paul and I are still the best of friends (you'll meet many yourself, there is always sombody that will like you, well maybe a few{sombody??]!). Fell in love with his wife Bobbie Jo (from Montana) and their two kids, Erica and Guy and have never seen or met them to this day. Live in Wells, Maine so its hard to visit with only two weeks vacation, a mortgage to pay and a full calander. But we still call, Christmas cards, etc.
