I use power bars and clif bars, and they IMPROVE in the heat.  When they
are cold, they have the consistency of old shoe leather and are almost
impossible to eat (particularly for the original flavors of power
bars).  I also prefer these to most candy bars because they don't seem
to taste as sweet to me. Although from an energy per ounce of weight
perspective, they are no better than Snickers, and cost almost twice as
much.  On my section hikes I usually plan about 4 energy bars per day as
an alternative to lunch. YMMV, of course.
