Woodelf, I think your more expansive question of not only lisst but
the internet does bring the picture into a truer focus especially as
all the youngest " grow up" on the next and if you say mouse they don't
think of the criters sharing room with us in the shelters but those
little computer input devices.

With internet sites such as kathy's http://www.fred.net/kathy/at.html,
dan's and all those AT maintaining clubs there is lots of info already
on the net and the maintaining clubs are using their sites as well as
general hard copy sources to get info out on mtgs, local hikes, socials,
etc. I make my tiny contribution to NJ AT on http://members.aol.com/visitnj
and by using it, I have gotten to met people from many lands. I'll soon
be hooking up with a person from Va and another from CT for a several
day little outing on our NJ AT.

The internet is growing so fast. Sometimes I also have a concurrent problem
that I don't want to know what's around the next corner for then it loses
some of its wilderness aspects if I know what's ahead. Some of my most
memorable experiences are when one comes up to an unknown waterfall on
a trip into unmarked territory. I haven't taken any poles either, but with
all the great internet sites, I am sure people are able to met people they
would have never met. I look to the "net" not only for advice which I need
plenty of but pen
pals, and friends.

Of course, meeting me after a bowl of chili and black beans, is well, I'll be
nice and call it deodorant; better than garlic for keeping away those evil
spirits and even chases away the Maine blackflies.

It will take some time but I think email, forums, web sites, etc will expand
but never replace a well written book resting on a ledge.

I am just waiting for Rhymn Worm's book to come out! - Tom
