A list where they don't talk about section hikes? <<<
wait, wait, please before we get into the same old thing again. :)
actually, we do talk about section hikes and non-pct hikes, and even some
touchy-feely stuff occasionally. what i think jim owen meant by the
comment was something like this (and please correct or elaborate if
necessary, jim) :
there are LOTS of posts about the logistics of doing a thru-hike on the
pct. the pct is just beginning to get books like the companion and
thru-hikers guide. but they are new. so there's lots of stuff about
resupply points, getting to campo, getting from manning park, snow in the
sierras, using ice axes, water supply points in the desert, trail
conditions, etc. el nino has dumped so much snow not only in the sierras
but in the mtns around LA, that this has been a hot topic. those living in
so. cal. have been going out to the trail for w/e hikes or day hikes, and
posting all kinds of useful info regarding trail conditions and snow, and
that has been very helpful i'm sure to those starting out. btw, apr 25 -
may 10 is standard starting time on the pct. don't want to start any
earlier, else you have to wait around for snow to decrease in the sierras,
don't want to start much later else the desert water holes will be dry.
so, because the logistics haven't been smoothed out by thousands of hikers
yet like they have on the AT, the pct-l is a useful forum for sharing the
kind of info that is readily available for the AT. and there have been
many not-strictly-thruhiking threads as well.
as my plans for a 2000 pct hike begin to shape up, i'm starting to save a
lot of posts that before i would just delete - they are relevant now! and
often the only source for this info is the pct-l.
