Gosh,

I hate to add to this overabundance of mail. But I thought I should add
something.

Last night, I went to WV Chapter PATC in Harpers Ferry (what a wonderful place
to have trail meetings). The speaker was Mickey McDermott from the Trail
Patrol of the PATC. He spoke about Leave No Trace and was an excellent
speaker. We saw a short version of the video "Soft Paths," which I highly
recommend. I learned a lot, and it seemed like everyone else did too.

Interesting idea was that urine was pure...and now it is recommended that it
be done over fast moving streams. Another idea, was that in nonused areas
pick a nonused site for camping and in highly used area, pick the area that
has been the most impacted by people. He also admitted that using a fire was
necessary at times and explained how to build a low impact fire. Another
topic was that a lot of insecticides carry ingredients harmful to the
wilderness. Just thought I would share a bit.
