[at-l] RE:AT for profit

I disagree. The original post complained about private individuals making a
profit off their tax dollars and/or contributions to the trail. I live near
the Adirondack State park where the residents are constantly concerned
about how to make a living. If folks who live in the areas we like to keep
as "wild" space (please DON'T tell me the AT isn't wild. I've heard all the
arguments already) can't make a living from those who come to use the trail
there will be even more pressure than there is to shut it down and develop
those areas purely for profit.

I live in an area that is not 'developed' because I like it that way and I
see folks having a hard time making ends meet every day. If they can make a
few bucks from the 'touristas' it at least keeps the place undeveloped. If
you disapprove of the hostels, etc. for profit, just don't give them your
business.

Oh, about your tax dollars. I work for the state and I've seen how many of
those dollars go DIRECTLY to very large, very well off corporations in what
some call corporate welfare, but that's not an appropriate subject for this
list.
