I've been on the lists a relatively short time (2-3 months). Starting
out, I assumed that WF's list was targeted mainly at topic related
specifically to thru-hiking, while Ryan's list was a forum for more
general discussion of AT topic. But it seems that both lists are open
for any AT related discussion.

I've often wondered about this too. This is obviously difficult to
answer unless the two administrators somehow compared their lists. Many
frequent posters are clearly on both lists. But there are some, whose
particularly thoughtful insight I always welcome, who are not.

I suspect you're on very sensitive territory here. IMHO, diversity is
good, the marketplace of ideas works even in non-economic arenas. ( I
hate it when I start sounding like Milton Freedman. )

Guilty as charged. I find that duplicate messages are easy to weed out.
I try (as do most I believe) to post replies only to the list(s) the
original message came from. From the general lack of complaints about
this, I suspect that few people are seriously bothered by cross posting.

I agree, but don't dig up any bodies on my account.

Peter
( maybe about 7000 days, but I'm not counting )
