[at-l] A small logistics problem

Okay - due to the rain, which appears to be hovering over TN in an attempt to
keep me from EVER going hiking - we didn't take the baby on her first
overnight AT trip. However, we *thought* we were going, and still plan to go
- so we discovered a small problem. Problem being - One baby in a backpack,
two sleeping bags, two thermorests, a tent, food, clothes, water and diapers.
Now, I can stack a lot on my good ole external frame JanSport. And usually do
:) But two sleeping bags, a tent, thermorests, food, clothes, water and
diapers (not to mention misc gear like, oh, say, a *stove*) . . . thats
stretching it even for my JanSport, not to mention my legs <g>. We could
eliminate the tent, except that any shelter anywhere near here is going to be
crawling with thru hikers right now. Not to be defeated, Toney (soon to be
ex) is going to try putting the baby in her carrier, and strapping his
Mountainsmith internal frame pack to his chest, with both bags stuffed inside,
leaving me with the rest of it. While I am not questioning his ability to
carry this much weight (he finished in the top third in the Dogwood endurance
hike last week, and climbs mountains regularly :)) still, it seems a bit much.
So anyone have any suggestions for how to make this work as easily as
possible?? (without drilling holes in the baby, that is <g>)
The Redhead
p.s. No, mom, shooting Toney is not an option :) I'd still have to carry the
baby and MY stuff :)
