                    Ode to Earl

I'd love to travel the trails you've walked,
I'd love to listen to the talks you've talked.
To feel the things your soul has felt
To kneel upon the grounds you've knelt.

To see majestic beauties high
To see the eagles soaring the sky,
To smell the earth and breathe the air
And feel the wind blowing through your hair.

To cross the rivers far and wide,
Carrying you gear as if it were your bride.
To feel the gentle rain as it falls,
And listen to the hoot owl, as it ugently calls.

I am but a beginning hiker,
Amatuer skater, amatuer biker.
But have dreams bigger than I can see
About doing a thru-hike, on the AT.

You have my warmest congratulations,
I'd love to be there, but lack the funds.
I'm sure a great time will be had by all,
Stand proud, stand long, stand tall.
