[at-l] on my soapbox

Since I did not read my mail since Thursday there were over 200 messages to
wade through. therefore this post refers to numerous others.

Wilderness experience:
Letting others ruin your experience comes from within you. someone mentioned
letting it bother him that he came upon a beer party at a shelter and instead
of continuing down the trail let it bother him. Last time that happened to me
I was planning a quiet evening until about 9 pm a bunch of kids came up the
trail with a beer ball they hauled up the mountain. Instead of letting it
bother me I went and got my cup.

Cell Towers:
recently I saw in some publicatin that ATT has erected some towers out west
that look like pine trees. since development of this type is inevitable,
maybe we should fight for the least visual impact. with an imitation tree and
shrubs around the shack, and placement off the trail, maybe no one will notice.

Dish Washing:
since most of my trips are short, I put the dirty dishes in a zip lock and put
them in the dishwasher when I get home.

Cell phones:
If someone carries a turned off phone (batteries won't last too long otherwise)
and walks away from me to use it, what do I care? I carry one and use it when I
get to the end of my hike to let my wife know I am OK so she can sleep better.
I would be more upset by someone's walkman that is so loud that i can hear it
while the earphones are on their head.

Enough, It's 1:30 and i spent most of the workday reading mail.

happy trails
Rich
