[at-l] What the....???????

Let me see if I have this strait.....

It doesn't matter if I could ease my parent's
or husband's mind.
It doesn't matter if I could possibly be of
aid to an injured hiker...maybe even help save
a life.

I must not carry a cell phone because some
stranger may get bummed out if he sees me
use it.

Hmmmmm....my decision re carry/no carry is getting
easier by the minute. Loved one's piece of mind vs
stanger's piece of mind. Saving a life or saving an illusion.

This morning I stood in a grove of wild dogwoods.
A breeze picked up and the spent blossoms rained
down on me. Simply magical. Thinking back on it,
there must have been traffic noise and maybe even
the sound of the forge in the town nearby. I didn't
hear it. It didn't spoil my moment of magic.

We are talking about walking from one supermarket to
another on a trail lined with shelters and privies and trying
to pretend that this is a wilderness experience.
And even though we have had a report this
week that an AT-Ler's _LIFE_ was saved because his partner
had a cell phone, some are still condeming those who do
likewise. Where are your priorities????

How many lives should be sacrificed to preserve your illusions?

And while I'm fired up, what the heck is wrong with us that the
sight of someone doing something of which we disapprove
can ruin our trip. Seems waaaayy too anal to me! If our hold
on our illusion is that fragile, we should get off the AT and head up
to the northern tier of Pa. You're unlikely to see any cell phones
there.
You're unlikely to see people there.
So there should be nothing to spoil your mood
except that which you carry with you.
