Poem #1 (written at Walasi-Yi center)
quiet time
to think good thoughts
alone
under the stars
the city underneath the mountain
slowly starts to show itself
to the night sky
i feel the breeze
and will look for the comet
blaze blaze blazing amazing
so old
it's light
has travelled so far
an intergalactic journey
that we are privileged to witness
alone
but we each see
the same light
Poem #2 (written at Slaughter Gap)
The percussive knock of the woodpecker
Gave my head a turn
I crept under the tree
And watched it's dust fall and glitter in the cool spring sun
I watched it work
And listened
I was aware of the woodpecker
Was it aware of me?
As he worked on his home
he played a rat rat tatta tat rhythm
Some birds whistle while they work
The woodpecker drums
As i strapped my pack back on
I thanked the woodpecker
for reminding me to Stop
Look
Listen
Be Aware
