The Vermont trail is the "Long Trail" and the New York trail is the "Long
Path"...
As for out of print and used books, I just discovered a site at abebooks.com.
They will do a free search among member bookstores, and if they find a match
you place the order. I was very happy to find the Rodale Press "Hiking the
Appalachian Trail" (I lived tin those two volumes during college) and i'm
breathlessly awaiting the arrival....
A caution on the Nat Geo book (not having read it), but their 1987 magazina
article was very much shown through rose-colored glasses. I'd much recommend
Larry Luxemberg's book'Walking the Appalachian Trail', but since I know so many
people in the book I'm biased....
Peace
