oh, it was fun thinking about these:
** most magnificent view, but not including Katahdin
whitecap, looking at katahdin, lakes all around
** most "intimate" section of trail
stover creek, in them hemlocks
** most challenging uphill haul
north kinsman, full pack, and a dog
** most challenging downhill haul
moosilauke would be one, osgood ridge, too
** Best view of a lake
ethan pond, or flagstaff from avery peak during sunset
** worst spot for insects
for me, it was eckville hostel, warm muggy PA night, warm down bag,
nasty biting gnats
** Best chance to see a bear
never did; bear mtn zoo
** Best place to see a moose
100 mile wilderness
** best shelter
luxury: jim & molly denton, or the one just S of HF
site/materials/view/aura: goddard
** best road crossing to hitch a ride
NOT fontana dam!
** easiest 10-mile stretch of trail
vandeventer -> double spring
** hardest 10-mile stretch of trail
stecoahs, wesser to 10 miles north of wesser, especially at that
time of the hike
** most surprising experience coming out of time spent on the AT
the fact that i am divorcing another 92 AT hiker.
surprise is a good word.
** most impressive river crossing
kimberling creek - coming out of the woods and seeing that amazing
bridge is quite a sight
** most boring stretch of trail
there are sections between bastian and catawba that i just don't
remember. i recall the famous spots, the views, the shelters, the people,
but i have no recollection of alot of the trail itself. was it boring, or
was i just not with it?
