Good for you - that's what the lists are about.  Remember - there are no
stupid questions.  But there are sometimes stupid answers. :-)

Yeah - we're using the last of a gallon of fuel that I bought over 2
years ago.  No problems.  

When I was on the Trail I ran out of fuel just out of the Smokies - I
was offered (free) the contents of an old rusty gasoline can. Given the
absence of any other option, I took it. It was gasoline (I think) and it
was probably a couple years old, but it got me into Hot Springs.  No
problem.  Personal opinion is that most of the "old fuel" problems have
nothing to do with the fuel, but are rather stove problems. Or possibly
operator problems. 
But not everyone will agree with that.  YMMV
