[at-l] MY WILDERNESS LIFESTYLE
BEFORE ANYONE GETS UPSET LET ME JUST SAY THAT THIS IS "MY" WILDERNESS
LIFESTYLE
1. I am an avid believer in LNT and have found that the greatest
contribution I can make to LNT is to GIVE UP COOKING and the associated
mess, i.e. soap, scraps, food poisoning, dirty pans, grease, fuel spills
and smells.
2. I BATHE IN 8 OZ OF WATER with a few drops of Dr Bonner's and I wash my
hair weekly with the same, and far ( at least 100' ) from water sources.
3. I CARRY OUT everything I take in.
4. I NEVER BUILD A FIRE although as a signal fire, if lost or injured, I
would consider it.
5. I DO NOT SLEEP AT SHELTERS or established campsites (unless the rules
say I must) as other people must have fires, trash, noise, dogs who won't
leave you alone. And the disease carrying mice live there for the easy
pickins....
6. I DO NOT CUT DOWN THE UNDERSTORY for campsites and I often camp right on
top of the little stuff. It pops back up in the morning.
7. Each year I TEACH THESE PRINCIPLES AND MORE TO ABOUT 125 YOUTH AND THEIR
LEADERS (at state parks and commercial campgrounds). I teach a smaller
group on the AT.
If I wake up one day and there is no wilderness my mind will go find its
own.
