[at-l] horses

Ran into a few pack trains on the JMT, and I always started that "quiet
conversation" with the packer by asking if any of the horses were easily
spooked. When the slope permitted I chose the downhill side of the trail to
step off, adding a simple calculation to Charlie Thorpe's descriptions... if I
had to take off I figured it was easier to run downhill with a pack on than to
try to scramble up.....
