[at-l] Re: ATML Re: spouse left behind

     >>And the one thing I've learned from being on these lists is
people_really_ change during a thru. So what happens when the hiker
     comes home
as a different person from when they left. What if the spouse doesn't
like that new person. I've gone on enough about this. But these
thoughts have really shaken me. Listening for more
     input......Kahley<<

I haven't thru-hiked the AT yet, but when I took my current job I had
to be in a different state for 3 months. My wife and family were back
at my previous home trying to sell it so they could move with me. It
was very difficult even with trips back home and phone calls. We were
able to work through that time without a strain on our marriage. I was
living in a very small apartment (Note $'s tight) and Colleen was
trying to finished up things with the house to get it sold. I guess
what I'm trying to say is that if you have a good relationship with
your spouse or S.O. and you talk through all the reasons for doing
this hike and to be as open up front with your fears, expectations and
concerns you can overcome anything. You can never cover all the
potential problems, but if you have an open communication from the
     start you should be OK.

Good luck on your hike and all the issues that come with it.
