[at-l] fever

As best as I can tell the "fever" is transmitted by a trail virus. I'll try to
keep my rambling short; after I got back to my job in the "real" world my new
manager asked me "What possesed you to do the AT?" A pivotal moment, because
I'd dreamed about the Trail for so long I no longer remembered what started the
dream. For some reason that question triggered some old memorys, of a family
picnic at Mt Greylock in Mass when I was 12 or so. The Trail used to cross a
parking lot and climb Jone's Nose, and while we were there these "bums" (at
least they looked and smelled like bums) came out of the woods with their
packs. The ususal questions led to the story that they started in Ga and were
headed to Maine, 6 months, etc....
Well, this was by far the dumbest, most idiotic thing we had ever heard of...
and within 10 years I had read everything I could find about the trail, and 10
more years put me on Springer. Whatever I caught from those hikers was
dangerous, I'm ruined for life.... The moral of the story is "Be nice to the
tourists, they could become like us"....
Peace, Skeeter....
