[at-l] rain jackets
I forgot who it was that was looking for a nice rain jacket. But
here's my advice, I don't want to get into a fight about it, these are
my opinions. PTFE laminants are nice but I'm convinced that
a non breathable laminant with lots of mechanical ventilation and some
kind of mesh liner is the way to go. They are cheaper, they tend
to be lighter and they don't soak up water when it is raining real hard.
Any material you have that is more water-proof than breathable is gonna
make you sweat, and the mesh liner will keep your skin from sticking to
the jacket and giving you that yucky clammy feeling. I'd check out
bellwether, they are really a cycling company (so it's real light) but
their rain jackets are not as cycling specific as many company's designs
are. They have nice hoods and they tend to be a little longer than
most cycling jackets. They have pit zips on all but the cheapest
model and they all also have back vents (doesn't really matter when you
are wearing a back pack). I haven't looked at their stuff in a couple
of years so you should inspect everything carefully and make sure you are
getting what you want. Just one problem with Bellwether, all of their
rain jackets are bright yellow. They have a web site at www.bellwethersf.com
but they don't really show any pictures of the gear. I'd go there
and do a dealer search.
