It may be 20 years old, but the very first journal I read, the thing that got me
hooked was the Moak's journal
of 1997. It may not be helpful to you for planing
purposes, but it's a really great read.
And my best wishes to you heading southbound this
year. The damage to the trail from the ice storm
sounds terrible and will require a herculean effort to
clear your way.
Last year we had a couple named the Smiths who
planned a ME>GA. After a frustrating wait for
Baxter to open they switched to a Springer start
and after a couple rough weeks, were never heard
from here again. I've always regrted their bad luck,
both for them and selfishly, for me,
because I was interested in reading of the southbound trip.
