[at-l] Whence to Maine?

Hey, folks, you wouldn't believe the offer I just got. A magazine is
sending me all expenses paid (except transportation -- rev up the car and
go) for a week in MAINE. Yes, Maine ... a state I haven't set foot in since
I was 9. My mission is to stay at and report on a recreational mining camp
near Poland, ME ... they are on the border of Oxford and Androscoggin
Counties. I don't know where this is in relation to the AT but I'm about to
look it up. Anyway, I have to pick a week between Memorial Day and end of
Sept, and I know the discussion about blackflies has gone back and forth
for ages. When would be the best time of summer to tromp around the Maine
woods and not get bit to death?
