I'm not a thru-hiker, but I play one on the internet. If nothing else,
Magoo's "failed" thru-hike proves that it really doesn't matter. He got
to do some hiking, he experienced something most people can't even dream
of, he has a bond with his son that will never be broken, he made friends
for a lifetime (myself included, whether he wants it or not), he tasted
success and defeat at the same time, he went home with some great stories
(not the least interesting of which was dinner in Pearisburg) and started
living life again with a little smile and ton of memories. Can you top
that???
