[at-l] Section Hike Suggestions

I'm new to the list.  I've never set foot on the AT, but have read a
great deal about it in the journals from 97 thru-hikers Solophile
and those on Trailplace.com.  I've hiked and camped in the
midwest for several years, and backpacked 10 days in New
Mexico this summer with my oldest son and his fellow Boy
Scouts.

I'm seeking advice from anyone for the best place to section hike
on the AT this summer or next with my son--now 15 years old-
and possibly a few other people.   Main criteria would be the
following:  (1) probably will spend 5-7 days on the trail, between
June 1 and Aug. 15; (2) probably will not be too aggressive on
daily distance, ave. 8-12 miles per day; (3) probably will need to
stay south of the Pennsylvania line, in order to minimize travel
time to and from Kansas City area.

With those thoughts in mind, I'd sure appreciate some expert
suggestions as to the best place for a section hike.
