Of course it is selfish. But man is by nature selfish - it is a survival
instinct. Whether you want to overcome that or allow your SO to do the
overcoming is something only you can decide. For years I've had to work to
support a spouse and 2 kids. I get one week a year to hike. My goal is to
complete the trail in 2020 and then hopefully in 2021 or so do the whole
thing at one time. On this year's escape I met several souls who were
thru-hiking with their spouses blessings. This was unusual. Mostly we have
met 20-somethings who are trying to find themselves or retirees who could
take the time. I would say go for it - maybe do your honeymoon - but that is
something you two will have to discuss,.
