It is that time of the year again.
The annual 50 mile Mountain Masochist Trail Run will be this next
Saturday, Oct 18, 1997. It will have about 175 runners starting at 0630
with flashlights from the James River Visitors Center on the Blue Ridge
Parkway. The 50 mile race course roughly parallels the Parkway and AT
north of the James River in Virginia. Runners will follow Forest Service
and logging roads through the area and should not be running on the AT
except where they intersect.
AT hikers may encounter the runners near Cashaw Creek, Punch Bowl, Pedlar
Reservoir, Rt.60, Hog Camp Gap, Salt Log Gap, Porters Ridge,and
Montebello Fish Hatchery.
The finish line is at Montebello, VA. with a cut-off time of 12 hours, or
6:30 PM. If there are any hiking Hams in the area, 146.520 MHz. is the
race frequency.
