feel like I was getting the flu. By Sunday I had a full-blown case of your
run-of-the-mill flu and spent the day in bed. I also noticed that something
had bitten me on the back of my leg, but I thought it was a spider or
skeeter or something. Well, the flu didn't get better and the bite got
bigger until the bite itself was a golf-ball sized hard thing with a huge
red circle around it (the red covered the entire upper part of my leg...in a
ring with the bite at the center). Now, I didn't connect the two (flu &
bite). <<<

some of this is similar to my bout with rickettsia (similar to rocky mtn
spotted fever) this june. i had absolutely no sign of a bite, and do not
remember anything that felt like a bite. but my symptoms were definately
flu-like - fever, grogginess, occassional quesiness, dehydration. no runny
nose, coughing or sneezing, and no sore throat. and they could only be
treated with antibiotics. tylenol and other OTC drugs only reduced the
symptoms without curing the problem.

at the emergency room, i got tylenol and plenty of fluids, but no
sophisticated drugs. they did some preliminary blood work and sent the
results to my doctor. that was friday afternoon. sunday i felt fine
enough for the 7 hour drive home. monday i was back at work, and tuesday
it felt like i was hit by a cement truck. so watch those symptoms closely.
if you don't feel you can back off the medication without getting really
sick, it's time to see a doctor.

you can catch a lot of things from ticks, lyme being about the worst, so
hopefully you got something minor that the small dose of antibiotics
killed. i'm surprised they are not monitoring you. did they get blood for
analysis?
