That is a very reasonable weekend hike. There is a shelter just north of
Springer with latrines and water. The view can be spectacular. It is a
teaser hike that will have you wanting more!

If you are looking for relatively short hikes in the same area, consider
the McKay Trail that parallels the AT to above Three Forks, and heads
west and north to Tennessee.
