The composting privy at Thomas Knob near Mt. Rogers has a solar-powered
fan, which aids the drying of wastes.  With conventional composting
privies, the waste has to be spread on a drying rack, adding another
(and most smelly) step.

BTW, what are people's favorite privies?  I'd vote for the "out" (no
house) at Beaver Woman Lake in Glacier, which has an excellent view of
the adjacent mountain & waterfall.
