Hi Folks,
Just got off the phone with Kellogg's finding out about expiration date for
pop-tarts.
The numerals and letters on the top of the box can be read the following way
to determine expiration date of product.
First two numerals are the month 01 (January) to 12 (December). 
Second two numerals are the day of the month 01 to 31.
Next numeral is year 7 is for 97.
The next three digits don't deal with expiration date.
If it's a fruit filled variety add 6 months for expiration.
If it's non-fruit variety add 9 months for expiration.
Just food for thought.
