[at-l] All The Way's Journal 7/4 -7/6

Friday 7/4 Pa. 225 to the Blu Blaze Hostel 23.8 miles

Happy Independence Day! Terriffic hiking until I arrived at the
section that is supposedly maintained by the Brandywine Valley
Outing Club. There hasn't been anybody moving blow-downs off of
the trail there in years. There were more trees down on the trail
in that eleven mile section than I've encountered in the previous
eleven hundred miles hiked thus far. It was an obstacle course.
This club is giving the trail in Pa. a bad name. Next time that
they have an outing they should try a work party on the trail
instead of sipping Chardonnay in a clubhouse in the valley.
Once I got through that section the hiking was very pleasureable
again. Blackberries are in season... grazing again...

Saturday 7/5 Blu Blaze Hostel to Hertlein Campsite 20.6 miles
(revised mileage due to a recent reroute)

Great hiking... Good food on the trail... blueberries, blackberries.
It felt weird to be a purist and stay at a place called "The Blu Blaze".
Nice place, nice people, big potentially mean dog. I met up with
Charlie once again. He is a retired SF full bird. Good times and
people out here, lots of vets, Airborne, SF, Marines, and a SEAL
too. War stories have been good...

Sunday 7/6 Hertlein Camp to Port Clinton 18.8 miles

Long day, sore feet, good hiking, good trail!
I didn't hydrate quite enough today. I'm carrying less H2O to save on
weight, but I left myself a little too short. Slight dehydration with
muscle cramps and a headache. Oh well, hike & learn.
I met Jan & the kids here. Now Eve, my eldest is my hiking partner
for a few days or maybe weeks. I've been looking forward to her
company...
