I used a pair of dirty thorlo socks for stream crossings.  Killed two
birds with one stone that way, too...cleaned my socks and protected my
feet against cutting rocks.  Socks don't slip on the rocks and you can
still "feel" your way across the stream, which you can't do with tevas.
