In both of the books I have read on the CDT the basic philosophy seemed
to be it is easier to get forgiveness than it is permission. The
narratives indicated that there is trail magic along the CDT with the
exception of Nature Conservancy lands. These folk were reported to be
down right nasty.  There were several times when the hikers found wind
mill wells that were fenced in with locks on the gates. They were faced
with climbing over the fences or die of thirst. However, the only time
that legal actions was threatened against the hikes was when they were
crossing Nature Conservancy lands.  Hopeful
