I agree with Mike, although I've never done a thru-hike, I have been out
for a month+ twice and have done a few sections longer than a week. I can
feel the change the longer I'm out, I have worked outside for 25 years
and once lived in the woods for a year. I know people that spend a lot
of time outside are more in tune with the real world, I can only imagine
what it must be like to spend months on the trail and the awareness that
must come with it. We must be patient with the "thru-hiker" attitude,
we're just visiting the world they live in. (:{)]]
