[at-l] Re-intro and Springer Fever

   I'm a section hiker living in Durham, N.C. who is back on the list after
an absence of almost a year. Was spending too much time online, hope to
control myself better this time. I'm re-energized after a great hike at the
start of this month. Went from Boiling Springs, Pa. to Port Clinton. Nice
section and I joined up with two section hikers, Strawberry from Chicago and
Compass from Quebec, for the whole week. Our hiking styles matched well. I
usually hike by myself during the day, but on this trip I was by myself in
the am and hiked with Strawberry in the afternoon. The company made the
miles go by easier. Thanks to Strawberry I now have a trail name, Lucky
Star. It was hard to get off the trail in Port Clinton. I wanted to keep
hiking with the others.
   So, now I'm back at work with a bad case of Springer Fever. I need to get
back on this list, because when I try to explain Springer Fever, people's
eyes start to glaze over. I guess they don't understand why I talking about
starting over when I'm more than halfway finished. My wife is finally
realizing that I'm not joking and is supporting the idea of a thru hike. My
boss would actually give me a leave of absence for the five or six months
needed. Just one small detail to work out... where to come up with six
month's salary? Just hope I can hold out for how ever many years it will
take to save up the money for a thru hike. Of course, I have my section hike
to sustain me. Question is, if I reach Katahdin before the thru hike, do I
summit? Seems it would have more impact if I save the summit for the end of
a thru hike. This is where people really look at me like I'm crazy. Am I
crazy? Aren't we all?
