Entrance Fees Charged at Popular Boundary Trailheads Will Benefit
Shenandoah National Park Visitors & Resources

Shenandoah National Park will begin collecting entrance fees this
Saturday (May 24) at trailheads located in
Weakley Hollow at the end of Route 600 near Nethers; White Oak Canyon,
near Syria; and Little Devil Stairs,
north of Sperryville.
The fees charged will be $5 per person or $10 per family. There is no
charge for children under age 17. The
annual park pass, and Golden Eagle, Age and Access Passports will be
honored at boundary trailheads.
Old Rag Mountain and White Oak Canyon are two of the heaviest used trails
in the park. At both locations the
experience can be diminished due to overcrowding on weekends. At Old Rag,
for example, hikers sometimes
wait in line to go through the rock scramble near the summit.
Occasionally visitors may even be turned away
during the early afternoon due to limited parking. Rangers recommend
hiking these trails during the week, if
possible, and choosing other trails on weekends.
