[at-l] Even more new boots, REI sales, etc

Well I came home early from a 2 day climbing trip to LOST WALL (just
kidding folks, about the caps that is) to hit the REI invitation only sale
thingy. I had plans to use the 20% off on my pair of backup boots and to
pick up my trekking poles while I was there. Well as I arrived home from
climbing the upcoming anniversary sale flyer was in my mailbox and the
poles are going to be $15 off starting 5/2 (the REI poles). Great news,
good thing I went home first.
The invite-sale thing was cool, all kinds of catered dessert
food and coffee from Caribou coffee. So I go to the footwear dept.
and say "Give me a pair of Zamberlan Maxims in 9 1/2", I get
the box and keep walking. This drew weird looks from the saleslady, but
hey, if you've already tried them on and know what you want....Anyway I
mozey on to the storage room where the damaged/returned gear sale was
happening. There were quite a few pair of boots there and if I'd been in
the market for some super stiff boots I'd have been loving it,
Raichle Eigers, Sportiva (forget the model) and several others in my size.
Then all hell broke loose, I spotted a pair of muddy Asolo Globaline
Meridians.
Now I'd tried globablines before and hated the high arch in them and they
just weren't comfy. I figured, what the hey, they are an excellent boot,
so i picked them up to see what was damaged......delam the tag says, so i
find the delam spot, it was practially non-existant. Hmmmmmmm, these are
broken in as well, wonder what size they are, 9 1/2, sweet! Let's try them
on, ohh my oHHH OHHHHH MYYYY! PERFECT! I couldn't have asked for anything
more, the arch in these wasn't anywhere near as high as the ones I'd tried
before, they were broken in nicely, had virtually all the tread left on
the sole, they're light, fit amazingly well, have nice foot support and
awesome ankle support, and all the reviews I've read were extremely
positive. The best part? They retail for about $190, I paid $89. I feel
like i just got away with peeing in the teacher's coffee or something,
giggling, walking around the store with this big stupid grin on my face
in a daze repeating over and over "I can't believe it"
So, I'll pick up my poles and some lightweight undies on 5/2 and
buy two new pairs of umbro shorts between now and then, make a run to the
Sam's Club and Drug Emporium and my shopping is done! Wow, I'm on the ball
huh?! 55 days to go and my shopping is almost finished.
On another topic altogether, does anyone know how Jeremy ,trail
name Ramble-on, is doing? Anyone heard seen him or his name mentioned in
any journals? Or maybe his girlfriend is subscribed to the list... he
started about two weeks or so ago.
