The section south of SMNP (Fontana south to Wesser) is kinda dry as I
recall. There is good water near all the shelters, however. Tenting is
ok in this section.

There are several possible loops east of the AT in SMNP. Tenting is ok in
this area also. You will still need to register for these backcountry
camp sites. This can be done at the Fontana Hilton shelter. There is
good parking and walk in access to the park. Hopeful
