RE: [at-l] my first overnighter

On the first night of our thru-hike we were celebrating our successful =
summating of Katahadin at Daicey Pond, with a can of Salmon from my =
wife's grandfather. Much to our surprise up walks a bear (without an =
invite). In those first few seconds of confusion, I tossed our food bag =
up on the roof of the lean-to (bad mistake). Then proceeded to watch =
the bear casually climb to the roof and proceed to pig out.

With the aid of the rangers wife we managed to drive the bear into the =
woods. It was with much trepidation that I retrieved the contents of =
our shredded food bag. The thought of heading out into the Maine =
wilderness with little food was none too comforting. A quick inventory =
assured me that our trip could proceed. Our only causality was our =
supply of instant grits. Such sadness is rarely seen, eight days to =
Monson and no grits. Be still my heart!
