[at-l] Re: the smiths gear list

Dear Michael/Friar Tuck and others;

 (only kidding Michael .:)

Thanks for all the constructive comments I'll try to
address each of them.
First, yes we are carrying sitting pads. Nothing fancy
just a mutilated Ridge-Rest cut in a couple a pieces large
enough to sit on.
Yes we have a ground cloth for the Stephensons, when I listed
the tent I should have mentioned that is with all the things needed
to use it in the field. That also goes for anything on the list
that needs a stuff sack ie. sleeping bags etc. There is one other
thing that slipped thru the cracks also and that is Alison's
Gitzo tripod. She wants to shoot her favorite film, Fujichrome
Velvia, which is a 50 speed film. We are sorry though that we
won't be able to post those with our journals, unless there is
someone out there who has a slide scanner and wants to donate
their time and resources to doing it.

This might be a good idea but which of us gives up the Petzl ?
We have been using those things for about two years now and
really like them. Plus they really fit our hiking style. We
have done many trips to Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico and
discovered some of the best times to hike were at night,
since we also use Leki's the Petzl's fit in great. I mention the
desert because it was during those trips that we started doing
something that we have been unable or unwilling to stop, and that
is it is not unusual for us to wake up at about 3 A.M. pack up
camp and head out. The Petzls are invaluable for that.

Since we will be starting early in Maine and also will be in the
Whites fairly early in the season we have decided to carry our cold
weather gear until we are south of the Whites. Mother nature will
dictate how far south .

We plan on carrying the polypro liners all the way, but are
sending the fleece ones home with the cold weather gear.

I carry four pairs of socks because I like to change socks several
times during the day. Seems my feet stay drier and I haven't had a
blister in about 15 years .

The razor is Alison's and she says Friar Tuck isn't getting her razor,
same with the nail clippers. No the tinker doesn't have scissors.

I did that back in the sixties, seemed like I always had pee
staining up the front of my pants. :) Remember the old
high school graffiti:

 You can beat it,
You can bang it on the wall,
 but it'll be
 back in your pants,
 before the last drop falls.
