How about up on top of Big Butt Mountain, just North of the shelter with
the faux telephone (someone help me with the name)?  There's a beautiful
greenway of a bald leading to the actual summit, and the entire area affords
superb and dramatic 360 degree views.  I nighthiked to the top and don't
recall seeing many lights out there.  This would be about halfway between
GSMNP and Damascus, as my foggy recollections recall.  Just after an area
called Blackstack Cliffs, which is a steep hike out from a gap with a one-
horse cigarette and ice cream store E of the trail.  Come to think of it,
this store isn't very far out from Hot Springs, so maybe that narrows down
the setting.
